Cartoon Upfront celebrated their 20th Anniversary at New York’s Roseland Ballroom on Wednesday, March 28th. Their program lineup is strong and they introduced some promising shows for the new season. They are the #1 network with boys 6-11 and have grown 28% with kids 6-11 in prime time for Q1 2012 and to date. Additionally, CartoonNetwork.com ranks as #1 Domain in the Kids Category.
What was most interesting was the use of digi-data in their presentation. This was the first time an Upfront combined web stats and emphasized online videos and advertising with their usual lineup. There is much more to come in this area as more networks develop online streaming and ways to capture audience and advertising dollars.
On a fun note, the presentation was excellent. There were a couple of highlights: Nick Cannon wrote and produced a rap song about doing errands with mom. The video featured a mother, son and daughter rapping about their day. It was a big hit… lots of claps and laughs.
The best voices of some of their animated hits came on stage to perform a live skit (cartoon on big screen). It was highly entertaining to see the faces behind the voices and watch the animated characters on the screen as the actors read the parts.
The closing act was a live orchestra band playing the music from the classic Cartoons (Flintstones, Jetsons, Looney Toon etc).
